I am planning for another summer project as well. This one would also be mixed media and a concentration piece. I plan on taking a photo of Jackie Brown's eyes and printing them big. I want to paint over her lashes in red paint and I'm not completely sure what the whole thing will turn out like yet. I know I want the basis to be a piece about the stigma of women being overly sensitive in comparison to men. I can't decide if I want the piece to make a mockery of that idea by using quotes about women's sensitivity or if I would like to show support by using quotes like the ones I found above. I really liked the eye piece I found; nothing else I searched was like it. I feel like that kind of aesthetic would go with the mockery theme.

I hope to complete a mixed media project over the summer as one of my assignments. I would like for it to be a concentration piece. I started cutting out images and text from magazines for the collage part of it. I don't want to to be cliche or tacky so I looked up some cool collage mixed media arts and found a really cool artist named Sandra Chevrier (the women with the collage faces) and I loved her approach. I need to plan my piece more but the visual research is helping me gain direction for it better. Sketchbook: 2 hours
I took some of experimented photos of Jackie, both inside and outside to see how the hearts would photograph. A few of these photos are sampled on the bottom row. Outside of class however, I worked on editing the photos in Photoshop. My original intention was to make the colors of the photo dull and brighten the vibrancy of the heart to emphasis it. I wanted this to be fairly obvious. I experimented with this idea by selecting out the heart of the photos and putting it in its own layer. Then I edited the photo, decreasing vibrancy and brightness to where I saw fit. I also edited the heart to make it brighter and more vibrant. I think that there will be more photo filters that I will play with later when I have my final photographs. The photos I played around with are shown on the top row. Photography: 3 hours
I volunteered at Ithaca's Take Back the Night march and rally, handing out candles and wristbands. It's an initiative devoted to support for sexual and child abuse and domestic violence. It was an amazing opportunity to interact with people. The theme this year was healing through storytelling so man shared their stories and some made me cry. I took my mom with me so she could see more of what I try to do which is apply myself and attend these kind of events of empowerment. She didn't make it to the women's march with me so this was great for her as well as me. |
