I spent a couple hours one night doing Lanaia's (shown above) makeup and hair then taking photos of her. We really did it for fun but it took a lot of effort to get everything prepared and clear the wall behind us so we wouldn't have a distracting background space. I used my iPhone flash and we were in the complete dark to get the photographs. I experimented using filters already on the phone, the one I liked and ended up using the most was "Fade" which gave it a pink undertone. I also played with putting my finger in front of the flash which would cause the picture to fade even further and created a kinda cool glow (see pictures 1 and 4). In many photos we used my faux-fur blanket as a prop which looked pretty cool with the flash. These are just a few out of very many that I took and liked. My favorite photo out of all of them is #2 shown above. I love her arm positioning and the circular glow of the background which really frames her as the subject. Gathering photos: 2.5 hours
Photographs taken @ Ithaca Women's March: 3 Hours These are just a few of the photos taken in preparation for my painting portrait of my mother and I. Last week, I spent time taking photos of her but forgot to get some of me too. Since I already knew what photo I would be using of my mother for the piece, I planned on doing a split portrait of the two of us. Therefore, I tied to recreate or at lease resemble her face in that photo. I still need to experiment with blending our faces together. I spent time at the Ithaca Women's March on Saturday and it was an amazing experience. I wish I had gotten way better photos or took the time to take more but I wasn't there to photograph the movement but be a part of it. I got a few pictures of signs I liked when I could. I would've liked to have a camera to take real photos with. Drawing: 2 Hours
Photography: 1.5 Hours This week for sketchbook I continued on my portrait of Clara outside of school. I really focused on the shading with colors of undertones in the photograph. For example there were many reds in her hair as well as the shadows that I brought further attention to with the pastels. I also took 25 photos of my mother for our upcoming, painting project. I didn't take any photos of me because I wasn't fully sure of my concept yet and whether or not I would do the mother daughter idea. Although I wished I would because I most likely am going to carry on with that idea. I'll most likely need to take more photographs of myself this week in preparation for this project. Experimentation: 4 Hours
I did extra experiments to plan for my breadth project. I want to play with altering this photo I took in California of flowers. This is breadth for me because I usually do not focus on digital work, I am more of a studio person. ALso, this piece is for the most part going to be non objective, even though it has symbolic meaning to me because these flowers were near a beautiful house I loved in California, but to anyone else there's not much meaning. The editing/ photo altering I am preforming does not contribute to the theme or meaning of the piece. Most of these experiments were too predictable and so now I am focusing on how to take more risks but still incorporate 2-D design principles in my work. Visual Research: 2.5 Hours
Photography: 30 Mins Editing: 30 Mins I dyed my hair blue over the break at my friends and the sink was so cool with all of the dye. Also, she happened to have all blue soaps around the sink which tied the whole thing together, so naturally, I took photos of them with my phone. I edited them on vsco. I think I like the most plain and simple one that's zoomed the farthest out because it has an uneasy vibe to it that is portrayed well. I also did some visual research, unintendedly, on twitter. There was a page filled with art, all from different people, and they were all amazing to me so I saved a few photos of the ones I liked. The artist names were not featured so I can't give them credit. Some are studio, digital, and even photography. |
