Marin and I had a picnic on Tuesday at Stewart Park and spent a lot of time taking photos of the water, geese and the sunset. None of these were edited yet and I'm not sure if I will ever edit them. I really love the dynamics of the top right hand photograph, I see a lot of movement in it. These are just a few of the photos I took.

I spent Friday night volunteering at the Cornell Observatory and they had the coolest wall of space diagrams. I took a bunch of photos of that but included 3 above, these were edited with VSCO. My favorite photo I took at the observatory is the red window shot. It's completely unedited, almost all of the lights when you get close to the telescopes are red, including the glass on the windows to block out incoming light. I also went to a boat show on Saturday at the State Fair Grounds and that's where I took the photo of the arch. Finishing Project: 6 hrs I took my painting project home this weekend to finish it for Monday when it is due and knew I would have to spend a lot of time on it considering the under painting wasn't finished yet. I took a few progress photos of what I did at home. The lighting isn't the greatest so the painting looks a lot different than it does in person. After I finished the under painting, I made skin tones and completed the faces in realistic color. However, the reference photos were already pretty red toned so I didn't feel the need to go too overboard, changing the entirety of the skin tones. I also made the blonde hair with yellows and oranges and the brown with reds and blues. I planned on leaving the background as is but now as I look at it, I think it would be really cool to do sort of the same paint stroke effect with a light blue color one close to the color of our eyes. I identify with the color red and my mom with the color light blue so I think that might be perfect for the background and I will add that later. Johnson Art Assignment
One piece of art I felt was inspiration to my concentration of women empowerment was the film by Martha Rosler: Semiotics of the Kitchen. The video shows a woman using common kitchen items in a more violent and defying way. It shows resistance of men's expectations for women belonging in the kitchen only. Its also kinda angry which is somewhat different than my other pieces because I've been kind of sticking to illuminating the souls of women instead of demeaning men or being angry for injustices. I usually tend to show feminism by embracing femininity and this film was very "anti-feminine". But it's interesting to see this anger and frustration towards the norms that women have been placed under and it was very powerful. I've also been getting more into photo journalism and I saw this piece when I was at the museum last time and unfortunately it was unable to be seen as it is in the conference room which was closed. The piece was by Bruce Davidson and its a picture of a man with the word "vote" painted on his forehead during some sort of protest. I would like to start exploring this theme of photojournalism especially in politics and protests and such. |
